2013 Winner Profile: Sugar Junction

Following on from the Best of Vintage Manchester Awards 2013, we have the first winners’ profile – that for Sugar Junction, winners of Best Vintage Venue.

I have personally long been a Sugar Junction fan, and given that this is their second win, Manchester certainly is too. They’ve recently updated the menu and included a new selection of cocktails and  I can confirm, having sampled one or two (or more) that these are well worth a visit alone and are perfect for extending your afternoon tea into the evening.

The cocktails are served with a beautifully paired little nibble, be it a macaron, or one of their stunning jellies. Yes, jellies.

These accompaniments are matched to the cocktail perfectly, enhancing, contrasting, or simply changing the flavour of your cocktail into something a little more special. And the atmosphere is still blissfully relaxed, making it a little haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the late night Northern Quarter bars.

Alex, fresh from behind the counter, tells us about the venue and future plans.

Sugar Junction is a place to relax, unwind, catch up with great friends and watch the world go by. We take great pride in using the best ingredients from Manchester’s finest suppliers. Our freshly baked bread is from Robinson’s bakery, our meat from Frost Butchers in Chorlton, our vegetables are from one of the oldest grocers around dating back to the 1920’s and our tea is specifically blended for us and us only.

By day we offer a ridiculously indulgent breakfast menu specialising in all things eggs & bacon, with some pancakes in there too! If Afternoon Tea is your suffice we serve a delicious cake stand of treats from noon until 6pm, supported by some of Manchester’s finest fruit scones and macaroons.

Sugar Junction by night is just an extension of time in the same magical environment. We sculpt beautiful vintage cocktails paired with appropriate puddings in a home from home setting, with orgasmic cakes to match. With being open until midnight Tuesday – Saturday we offer the guests of the Northern Quarter the ability to escape the bustle of the city and relax in a quiet vintage hide out.

Bookings can be made for both the day and the evening, we just ask that you love cake as much as we do and are not afraid to try a pot of tea or two.
