A week before Christmas I was desperately searching for New Year’s Eve events with a vintage theme and failing. Yet now, a few days before, there is suddenly a plethora of events. Hopefully we’ve managed to find them all.
Starting with the Cornerhouse and Dr Butlers Handstand Medicine Band, who are part of a night of folk, blues and jazz, with the aim of getting people onto their feet and dancing. With a full three course dinner on offer from 8pm (or just the music from 10pm), you can really make a night of it.
Continuing with the 1920s, Liquor Store have a Great Gatsby theme for their NYE party which will last a whole 24 hours. Midday to midday, if you’ve got the stamina and the glamour, this night could last for a day and will cost you £10.
Bringing us forward in time a little is All Star Lanes, with their Rock n Bowl Party. Entry is FREE all night, but their Eat Drink Bowl package is a great way to celebrate: a two-course meal, cocktail, game of bowling and a glass of prosecco for just £35(pp). DJs will be playing be playing the very best 50′s & 60′s music all the way through til 4am and they are running the Kingpin game on the lanes for the chance to win a round of beers.
Henry J Beans in the Printworks are also holding a rocking 50s night for you to see in the new year. Before 10pm, entry is £1 and £3 after. Happy hour cocktail offers run from 8pm til midnight and you can book a table for dinner and enjoy pre-order bubbly for only £22 and a free bottle of bubbly at midnight if you book a drinks area for 6 or more.
Manchester 235 (our hosts for the Awards event) is bringing us a little further forward to the Rat Pack with their One Night in Vegas event. Rat Pack singers, Vegas Showgirls and, of course, gambling galore it sounds like even 007 himself couldn’t resist. And of course, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
If you’re in the mood for something a little more Studio 54, then The Castle Hotel and it’s sister pub, Gullivers, are holding a disco party to allow you to get your groove on. Free entry, it all gets going at 7pm. Don’t forget your platforms.
Outside the City
Chorlton seems to be holding it’s fair share of vintage themed events, starting with Oddest and it’s 80s themed night. Cheese & Wine presents “CROSS THE STREAMS” – full of 80’s flavoured pop, funk and disco. This cider, festival ale and cocktail fuelled night kicks off at 8pm and there’s free entry.
And there’s a vintage twist at Nook and Cranny’s regular Prohibition DJs holding a Prohibition Night event with free entry and donations going to charity.
And finally, for those who like their New Year’s Eve with a little more swing, there’s the Midnight Special from Period Promotions, so you can dance your way into the new year, with the Black Cat Trio and Sunnyside Swing. This event starts at 7pm and is in the gorgeously period Sandbach Town Hall.
