Anyone who knows Stockport knows it has its good points and its bad. I could discuss the Mary Portas Pilot debacle but I’ll assume readers of this little site can look things up for themselves.
Its a fair comment to say that the Victorian Market area is one of the thriving parts of Stockport and I’m (ed) not biased when I say a lot of that is down to the footfall that Vintage Village has established over the three years it has been running (and twice winning Best Vintage Fair in Manchester at our own awards).
Surrounding the markets area now are furniture shops and tea rooms and some lovely “proper” pubs- we love the Arden Arms. Even the Robinson’s Brewery now has its own Visitor Centre, most people would never have even known they were walking past the brewery previously.
Just beyond the brewery is a real gem, Agapanthus Interiors at 77 Wellington Street (SK1 1FE). We’ve known about this shop for a while but only recently had the opportunity to pay it a visit. It is simply a stunning shop. Masses of beautiful chandeliers, and ornamental lighting, along with bits of furniture, some which have been Annie Sloaned others have been left in their vintage glory.
The owners Zoe and Tom are knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We went in trying to source a handle for a cabinet and despite not having anything similar Tom was happy to suggest alternate places for us to try. Handily they also restore vintage lighting and we definitely have a few projects to send their way soon.
We cant recommend Agapanthus enough- we were really impressed, and it’s now on part of our regular circuit when looking for new bits and bobs for the home. Go and have a look at the beautiful website to find out more and follow them on Twitter @AgapanthusInt
