You probably know I’m a big fan of Gin.
It hasn’t always been that way, a Scottish friend got me into it at University. I actually used to hate it, but I suppose gin can be an acquired taste, one that grows on you.
So when I spotted the Manchester finally has one to call its own I just had to try it.
Thomas Dakin Gin is named in honour of the man who founded the oldest gin factory, which we now know as Greenalls in Warrington. So not quite “made in Manchester” yet but the plans are in the pipeline to open a distillery in the city, sooner rather than later.
This gin is a surprisingly warming gin. Its very dry and leans towards savoury rather than floral. The Juniper leads the taste sensation but a note of coriander really stood out for me. To be honest at first I wasn’t sure if I liked it, but realised I did after a couple more sips. We had ours in front of a roaring fire (the first of the season) after a busy weekend with the kids. And it was perfect, if there’s such a thing as an Autumn~Winter gin then this is it. It left us both feeling very cosy- so much so Mr OFS nodded off!
This is a gin that would stand up to strong flavour foods- I normally dont drink G&T with meals like Chilli or curries as the gins are usually to delicate and the flavours would be wasted. Not this gin.
It’s going on the Christmas list for sure, I might even get a bottle for the Mr and I to share before then.
