Please welcome Sharon, one of our new contributors here at VintageManchester.com. Find out more about her on our About page, but meanwhile read on for some trade secrets!
I’m a real homebird and my nest is very much the result of years of collecting and mixing different pieces/eras together. I always think there is a vintage solution to any design issue – sometimes you know exactly what you want, it’s just a question of hunting it down or finding it at the right price. I love to fill my home with vintage pieces, when I fall in love with an item it makes me smile every time I see it.
One of my favourite items is this cut glass decanter which was a present from my Mum. I have filled it with bubble bath and it now sits in my bathroom window where, together with the cut glass candlesticks, looks great when they reflect the sunlight or candlelight.
Another favourite item was found in a skip in Withington back when I was a student in 1992. I couldn’t believe my luck, or that anyone wanted to throw away this lovely mirror.
I love old wallpaper designs and have a huge passion for the papered wall. I have been using my spare time researching vintage patterns to design my own wallpaper. The below was created by my husband & I, using a photograph from our holidays to South Africa.
We used a Bird of Paradise flower to create a design inspired by traditional damask style patterns. Lucky for me I’m married to a printer (Stroon) who can create bespoke wallpaper so I can change my mind as often as I want or try out new designs!
When I do get some free time I’m generally on the hunt for that next favourite item. Here are my favourite places across the North West & beyond, if you fancy a trip, I hope you find something special. Happy Vintage Hunting!
