My blog makeover

Readers that have been with me for a while will have noticed the blog has had a makeover recently! The big change is really the fact that I’ve gone from using “Susie’s Old Fashioned Finishing School” to “Old Fashioned Susie”.

The reason for this was mainly because, when I first started blogging in January, I imagined
that it would be more of a finishing/charm school. A place where girls/women/ladies, whatever you want to call yourselves, would come for tips and advice on how to be old fashioned gals! I thought I’d be discussing etiquette, dinner party conversation, dating and recipes.

The original header

Its not that I don’t discuss any of this here, its just that those aren’t the only  subjects I’m talking and writing about. As the blog grew and I became used to writing I found that being myself was the most important thing about blogging. So the name needed to be changed- hence “Old Fashioned Susie”, I think its also more catchy.

So I needed a new look. My first header I had designed myself in Photoshop and despite having a degree in Fine Art I couldn’t be objective enough to design something I thought reflected me. I also wanted a cleaner more graphic image- so via the magic of Twitter, a fabulous illustrator came to my rescue!

The lady in question is Megan Thomas who is an illustrator living right here in Sunny Manchester! A lot of her work is inspired by Art Nouveau and Scandinavian art. Producing bright and decoratively patterned illustrations, she also has a strong background in Textiles and Fashion and knows a fair but of HTML- perfect!!

The new header!

She was really easy to work with- I gave her a brief of the kind of thing I had in mind and after a couple of weeks of tweaking the design it was ready for me to use!! She is very reasonably priced too- I would defiantly recommend!

You can also follow Megan’s blog “Love Illustration” here!

How important do you think Blog/website design is? Are you ever completely happy with it or constantly changing?

I like the new header! I think that quite often simple is best, although it’s always good to give things a bit of an overhaul every now and again. Just to keep it interesting really. A bit like redecorating your living room.

Megan Thomas is ringing a bell with me for some reason, although I’m not sure why. My friend Liz is an artist with a studio in the Craft Centre on Oak Street so perhaps it’s something to do with that? Good job anyway!

Thanks ladies! Yes the other one felt a bit stern- not fun enough for me really.
I think Megan does have a studio in Manchester- it might just be the craft centre!

Just wanted to say I love your new header and I think the name is perfect for you.

It’s funny I didn’t really think my blog’s name through for very long but hopefully it kind of works. Interesting how blogs evolve isn’t it? I started my blog as an aide to my freelancing and wrote about the business side of retail, fashion and design but then i relaxed and started to really enjoy it and now I blog about whatever I like. It’s become much more personal, hence the thrifting side and photos of home life.

I love the way your blog is turning out x
