Hello and Happy New Year!
I had a really relaxing break over the festive period and part of that I’m sharing with you today.
We were lucky enough to be invited to stay at the new(ish) Motel One in Manchester as part of our wedding anniversary.
Yes we got married on Christmas Eve Eve. Yes it’s probably a bit bonkers.
The first thing you realise about this hotel is its brilliant location. Its probably the closest hotel in Manchester to Piccadilly Railway station, in fact we could see it from our window. (to the left in the photo below)
This is a huge selling point for Motel One as Piccadilly is the main railway station in the city. With the Virgin London bound trains being based here and the line to Manchester Airport there is massive scope for commuters, business types and holiday makers coming through.
The other great thing about being so close to Piccadilly station is that you can jump on the free buses that run around the city centre. You can get to other areas of the city in practically no time, and free is always good in my book.
Find more info about the free Metroshuttle bus.
But back to the hotel. Motel One are totally serious about the Great Design for Little Money slogan… This doesn’t feel like a budget hotel at all… In fact it feels more like a modern boutique hotel.
There’s bespoke design on the wall, cutting edge lighting and technology and that’s even before you get to your room!Despite the close proximity to the train station and being in the city centre, the noise level inside the hotel was totally fine. When in the room you wouldn’t have even known you were in the city.
The room felt chic, and despite it not being huge, it felt light and airy and modern. With the type of considered design that truly works in small spaces. Clever space saving ideas were out in full force, like not having a wardrobe but instead a rail that is incorporated into the wall or headboard area.
There was even space in the room for a desk and a sofa… Don’t get me wrong the room wasn’t pokey or stupidly small, just not boutique hotel sized… Which is what I found myself thinking about… I kept feeling like I was in a boutique hotel and then remembering I wasn’t… Not a bad thing I’m sure you’ll agree.
I didn’t get a good photo of the bathroom which always seems to be the way with the reviews I’ve done of other hotels too. But its safe to say that, again it was of a higher standard than the “budget hotel norm”.
I did make a little video though!! I hope to make this more of a thing in 2016, more video content… This mini movie should give you even more of a flavour of Motel One than just the photos. Do let me know what you think! I’m a bit wobbly but everyone has to start somewhere right?!
Look out for an appearance of us both having breakfast on Christmas Eve morning, which by the way was a delicious European breakfast…. Really fresh and with excellent coffee!
