I’ll say straight away that I read this book in three days…
Its a fictional first person account, by author E.Z. Friedel, of the last two years of Marilyn’s life. In otherwords the author is writing as Marilyn in diary format.
As you may know if you read this blog often I am a big fan of Marilyn and have read many books about her and her tumultuous life. When asked if I wanted to review this book I jumped at the chance. If Marilyn was still alive today she’d be 87 years old, born on 1st June in 1926, sadly she died in suspicious circumstances in 1962.
Hollywood’s dream girl continues to fascinate many people including myself, from her tragic childhood to torrid love affairs and the sheer fact she was ahead of her time in many, many ways.
“This provocative and scandalous narrative is told by Marilyn herself, as she recounts the events of the day – and the steamy, sexual encounters of the night – writing in her red diary all the details and dirty little secrets about some of the most powerful people in history and entertainment.”
This book is just like reading her diary- or the closest we’ll ever probably get, she (ie the actual author) tells all at the advice of her psychiatrist- hoping it will exorcise some of her demons. This book is explicit in parts- as a diary would be, it also covers much of the politics of the Kennedy period and the somewhat seedy world of Sinatra…
I really enjoyed it, its rather trashy but the subject matter is really interesting and rather convincing! If you are a fan of Miss Monroe its definitely worth a read.
Marilyn’s Red Diary, is the authors second novel and is the culmination of more than 20 years of research, thousands of pages of correspondence and many interviews, if you’d like to be in with chance of winning my copy enter the giveaway below.
