Living room update plans

Although the living room is one of the most used rooms in our house, as I’m sure it is for you, it’s also the one that we’ve shy’d away from updating decoratively too much.

I’m currently looking at ideas for renewing our living room. We have done a fair amount of renovation in the room, getting rid of horrid wallpapers and paint colours. And we’ve had the chimney breast replastered and got rid of some leaks that were letting water in…

As much as these jobs were crucial and unavoidable, they’re not the most fun ways to spend your cash. I’m sure you agree it’s much more fun shopping for coffee tables or paint colours… The more decorative side of renovation!

The room itself is extended at the back (explains the flat roof leakage we had to fix) so using the space to its full potential is challenging. So I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite living rooms that I’ve been looking at for inspiration recently for our own living space at home. I’d love to get all this done by Christmas but I think I’m probably wishful thinking.teal corner sofa mid century styleImage via theeverygirl.com

The sofa is the key piece of furniture in any living room and the amount of times I’ve moved ours between two positions is laughable. So I’ve been toying with the idea of a corner sofa for a while now as I think it would utilise the space better and there would be more space on a corner sofa for family film nights. I love the colour and the mid century styling of the teal sofa in the above image.

We’ve currently got a leather Chesterfield which I love and it’s such a classic design, I just wish it was a bit bigger, deeper and longer. We are all tall in my household and the girls are growing at a fast rate of knots. This sofa would be cosy enough for us all to sit on at once.cosy Bohemian corner sofa round tableImage via style-files.com

I’m also on the lookout for a coffee table. Our current one has seen better days, it’d make an ideal upcycling project but seeing as it’s not right for the space I’ll let someone else give it some TLC. Initially I’ve been looking a circular table, I’d love to have a mid century classic- the G-Plan Astro table but I’m also considering getting something on wheels now too. We do tend to move the table about when the girls are playing so something on wheels might work better.

These tree stump coffee tables are round and on wheels- and fun! Anyone got a large tree they are chopping down?

I’m curating a gallery wall for one end of the room, but annoyingly it looks like some old electric wiring might slow me down there, so stay tuned for that. Part of the love it and sometimes hate it vibes of living in a really old house.

And lastly on this living room list is a rug. I love our current IKEA rug, it was one of the first things we bought when we first moved in just over two years ago. But it’s had a battering and although anyone visiting wouldn’t notice (unless they’d read this of course) it does need replacing. I’d like to go for something with a little more colour variation and pattern so the inevitable spillages and marks don’t seem quite so obvious.rug and leather chair with plantImage via designsponge.com

Lovely photos and ideas – we got a corner sofa from next last year (got a small living room) it’s worked really well and lots of different materials available too – and I finally replaced the nackered ikea shelves etc with lovely oak furniture inc sideboard which meant I could move thinks out of the kitchen. My gplan table and chairs go really well. House still work in progress. Love bec xx
