Her Ladyship’s Guide to Running One’s Home- Book Review

Her Ladyship’s Guide to Running a Home is both witty and practical- two of the best features in anything , be it book or person. I received this for review recently and I’ve really enjoyed dipping in and out of it. In a way it reminds me of a book my Mum has about the “Household”, but her’s is a lot more serious!

Written and created by Caroline Taggart who I’ve discovered has wrote a fair few wittily clever, but also factual books, and is often at the top of bestseller lists as her books are so readable. This one is no exception.

This is very tongue in cheek but also very useful- it make no qualms about being derivative of Mrs Beeton’s Household Management book and the bibliography is extensive, but the way it is wrote is so approachable that even a slattern like myself is feeling motivated to polish the silver!

The book is beautifully illustrated and I think some more illustrations would have been lovely but I suppose it might have detracted from the task at hand which is getting the house in order, without being a slave to chores.

I’m always on the lookout for reducing my ironing!

To sum up this is a very handy book to have around if you don’t already own something similar, I think it would make a great gift for someone who has just moved house or someone who wants a different take on the world of housekeeping.

It breaks down into several useful chapters- some of which cover things I’ve yet to experience- perhaps as we’ve not got the space but its still very useful with regards to the etiquette of certain events and the proper way of doing things, which I’m all for. And for £6.56 from Amazon it would be daft not to have this useful and funny book in your collection.

I’ve only recently started tackling my home… being a vintage domestic goddess seems to have been bottom of my priority list, but I’ve got a couple of books like this, which is ashame as this sounds pretty funny.
