Further Afield: The Yard on The Edge

The lovely Sharon, one of our contributors recommends a new found spot in Alderly Edge…

Alderley Edge has some of the best charity chops in the South Manchester area. For a small high street there is plenty of charity with four shops – Oxfam, Cancer Research, Barnardo’s & Marie Curie. Of course while in the Edge you might spot a famous footballer or local celeb…

So after a busy morning scouring Alderley’s charitable delights I needed a cuppa. I was meeting a friend and she suggested The Yard on the Edge. Tucked away off the main high street in a converted garage, The Yard offers fresh & local produce, a tea room and much more.

This Butcher, Baker & Greengrocer stocks locally produced seasonal foods with fantastic juice bar but has a beautiful tea room space with a fresh clean vintage feel & an equally fresh menu.

Don’t get me wrong for a girl with a vintage business I love pretty floral, but the clean vintage inspired décor creates a truly calming, atmosphere, a place you want to just hang out in. I’m a lover of this clean fresh vintage style.

We visited when it was sunny so the shutters were open to the terrace, but with a log burning stove as a fantastic feature of the room I look forward to a cosy hot chocolate after a walk to the Edge in autumn.

The décor is vintage decorative salvage in style, with white-washed walls and a great mix of wood, metal and pretty cut glass & wire light fittings, a gentle industrial nod to its former life as a garage.

There is also a busy diary of events to keep any vintage crafter happy including a knitting club, vintage skirt sewing class and for all you fellow painted furniture fans they have Annie Sloan workshops too.  A really flexible events space for yoga, open mic nights as well as pop up shops & interesting speakers such as Lynn Franks PR Guru who was talking local women over breakfast recently.

So my advice for a fantastic local vintage day trip would be to check out the charity shops of Alderley, a visit to The Yard and a walk to the Edge. Fancy it too? Have a happy vintage day out!

There is a website coming soon, like them on Facebook or follow them  on Twitter @YardOnTheEdge
