This roving report is almost a further afield vintage piece, but sitting right on the edge of the Stockport borough are the villages of Disley & Newtown, it’s practically local at only 14 miles from Manchester & 6 miles from Stockport.
Having moved to the village at the end of last year I came across Michael Allcroft Antiques – and boy what a find this place is! This fantastic space was once an industrial unit but is now home to many splendid antiques, vintage & salvage pieces and up-cycled furniture. Owner Michael is very friendly, knows his antiques & vintage and has a really varied collection, something for every avid bygone fan.
I’m a huge fan of painted furniture and the quality of items here which have been refurbished is exceptionally high – smooth finishes and excellent paint jobs. This dresser has been given a new lease of life with muted paint tones and wallpaper panels – perfect for any vintage lovers kitchen or dining room.
This trunk really caught my eye, in great condition with just enough knocks & bumps to show it’s had an interesting previous life travelling the globe. Quite unusual to find a tin trunk in this colour too.
Being a bit of a vintage luggage/storage fan I’m a real sucker for old leather suitcases and the collection at Michael Allcrofts doesn’t disappoint as they were all in really good condition and look stunning all grouped together. Suitcases are the perfect storage solution for the modern vintage home.
If you are a keen collector of vintage advertising there is also an interesting collection of tin & wooden signs on offer, all in excellent condition and a great selection of furniture from big sturdy dressers, bookcases and desks which just ooze quality craftsmanship from days gone by. With occasional & dining chairs aplenty and highly decorative wooden boxes & tea caddies dotted around you wont fail to find something you like.
I really enjoyed a browse through the collection at Michael Allcrofts, a great mixture of antique & vintage and what impressed me most was the quality, condition and variety of stock. I highly recommend a trip to Disley, well worth a special visit or next time you fancy a walk at Lyme Park, just drive a little further down the A6 and take a peek at this wonderful warehouse full of vintage treasures. Disley Village is the perfect pit-stop en route to Buxton & Matlock too, making a perfect vintage hunting day trip in my book.
Opening times are Thursday 11-6pm, Friday & Saturday 11-5pm or by appointment. It is worth checking opening times with Michael in case he has been called away in the name of antiques & vintage hunting but Saturdays are always good time to call in.
