Design your own Footstool

We are in the very slow, but steady process of improving our Living Room.

I think working on your lounge or living room, or whatever you prefer to call it, is often slow because you spend so much time in there. I know we do. So you put off bigger jobs, that’d cause upheaval because you just want to sit and relax and the end of the day.

Sitting and lounging has been much improved since we bought our new sofa, and I’ve switched around some furniture from other parts of the house that now work better in here.

The back of our living room is basically a glass wall, with sliding doors out onto the patio and garden. You might remember I had my desk in the part of the room until very recently (more on this move in a future post).

I’ve plans to make this end of the living room into a garden room; a little reading nook with lots of plants. The corner sofa really helps with the division of the space.

creative studios by artists and designers

I’ve moved my much loved peacock chair back into this area (it has been in nearly every room!) and we’ve a new footstool that works in here or in the main part of the living room with the sofa.

The footstool is handmade. I worked closely with The Footstool Workshop to create something that would be versatile enough for our space, compliment the green of the sofa and forthcoming plants; but also have that classic, timeless look that I love.

footstool green button

On The Footstool Workshop website you can build your own footstool, starting with the size. There’s a wide selection to choose from, some of them include storage too.

You can then choose your;

  • fabric; do make use of the free fabric sample service it’s really fast (or you can send your own fabric to them)
  • leg style; a variety of heights, woods, shapes, wheels
  • trim style

We went for a deep buttoned plain wool in Willow with nine inch tapered oak legs and full studs. Ours is also classed as a small footstool at 18 inches square, but as you can see, it is a very substantial piece of furniture.

design your own footstool

I love the deep buttoned look, it’s the thing I loved most about our previous sofa. You do need to keep on top of the vacuuming though as its amazing what kids will put inside these holes!

deep buttoned footstool bespoke

Would you fancy designing your own footstool? See the giveaway at the end of the post.

The whole experience of ordering this footstool was really easy, and the communication about dispatch and making the footstool was all crystal clear. I knew what was going on, the lead time and the delivery time- makes you wonder why all companies dont do this.

Medium deep button wool check hessian!

The Footstool Company looks amazing – love the choice on offer, so you get exactly what your living room needs…

  2. March 29, 2017 / 7:06 am

We’ve been looking for a footstool for ages! So nice to be able to design your own.

    March 29, 2017 / 7:30 am

I love this! The stools look great especially the deep buttoned.
I’d go for the wool spot grey, I love the pop of colour which I like around the home, I’d pair it with 6′ convex oiled oak feet and keep the trim plain.

I think a stool is a great addition to any room and the quality stands out.

    Great recommendation!

Painting my dresser has been waiting to be done for a long time now, mostly because I can’t make my mind up about the colour.

  5. March 29, 2017 / 8:42 am

ooooh that footstool is lovely Susie… I could really do with one at home as the husband always complains he doesn’t have anywhere soft to rest his feet hahaha! Will have to look into this 🙂 A x

  6. March 29, 2017 / 8:54 am

Looks great in your room. I’d love one in pale pink. x

I absolutely love the spotty fabrics – I think they’d look amazing and they’d go in our colourful living room too. Living in a rented house means we’re limited on decorating (magnolia galore ), so it means our furnishings are key to make our house feel like a cosy home.

  8. March 29, 2017 / 1:22 pm

I really really wanna Win! I entered!

  9. March 29, 2017 / 1:47 pm

Love this footstool! Gorgeous colour and fabric, and perfect size. I really like the customisable element – I struggled so much to find one I liked that fit my room that I actually made one myself! We are re-doing the living room later this year though, and changing the layout, which will mean a different footstool will be required. I’d go for a medium-sized grey wool one with a castor leg!

I would absolutely love to win this fantastic competition. We’ve recently bought our first house and the snug is big enough for a footstool.

  11. March 29, 2017 / 2:54 pm

Beautiful footstool Sus, works wonderfully in your space x

  12. March 29, 2017 / 3:26 pm

Wow, what a lovely footstool! Your comment about it being amazing what children can poke in the holes really made me laugh. I rather like the look of their cube footstools – either in a rich purple velvet, or a leather finish.

  13. March 29, 2017 / 4:07 pm

On my to do list: photograph and list some stuff on eBay!

  14. March 29, 2017 / 5:46 pm

Oh my goodness, these are beautiful! We moved into a new house in December and are only just getting started with redecorating to make it “ours”. I would LOVE one of these to finish off our living room. I’d probably choose a medium size with the deep buttoned top, and I’d likely go for velvet. If I can’t have a velvet sofa then I need velvet somewhere! I’m thinking a pop of rich colour like a purple. What I’d really adore would be a pink velvet but that option isn’t there sadly! Definitely full studs for the trim. Ohhh I’m dreaming now…

I absolutely love the spotty fabrics – I think they’d look amazing and they’d go in our colourful living room too. Living in a rented house means we’re limited on decorating (magnolia galore ), so it means our furnishings are key to make our house feel like a cosy home.
