Classic Wristwatches: Vintage Fathers Day Gifts

With Fathers Day fast approaching our thoughts are are turning to what we’ll buy our Dad’s and if you are anything like us you’ll also be thinking what you’d buy if price wasn’t an issue.

For us its all about vintage timepieces… Men and wristwatches seem to go together like peas and carrots, its no wonder watches are such a traditional gift for any man, for any occasion. As a watch is such personal item they are usually given by someone who is very close to the gift receiver- son, daughter, wife. With the bonus of having space for a personalised engraving on the back to mark the occasion further.

The craftsmanship that goes into making these watches can last a lifetime which is why vintage watches are so covetable often the strap will be replaced through wear long before anything within the watch itself needs attention. Batteries are not used in these watches- these are all about the mechanic’s and winding it up yourself.

If you fancy looking into vintage watches further have a look at Chrono24 where the selection is vast, with dealers and watch experts from all over the world offering an extremely high standard of vintage watches.

Perhaps you have developed a taste for vintage timepieces, but need more advice, so to temporarily sate your hunger we recommend this article in GQ about How to Buy a Vintage Watch.

I had a watch engraved for my dad one year, it was so precious to him he never wore it! It’s probably safe in a box somewhere even now, I’m going to dig it out and wear it in his memory on fathers day x
