Saturday 3rd March is the key celebration day for Manchester Histories Festival and here’s an event for all you music lovers. Manchester icon Dave Haslam will be discussing fanzines! Triggered by punk, but with roots in the underground press of the late 1960s, fanzines proliferated in the period 1976 to 1988.
Dave will be focussing on Manchester’s radical and musical history, particularly on City Fun, in a talk assessing the importance and legacy of Manchester’s alternative music magazines. Considering their contribution to our understanding of music and social history and celebrating the recent resurgence of local self-published, independent ‘zines in the current era.
